America the Bountiful
This is a library exhibit about the use of 10 classic American food groups: beef, chicken, turkey, pork, potatoes, corn, greens, wheat, beans, and apples. It looks at these foods during historical periods; for example, the page on turkey, called “Birth of a Nation,” provides the history of Thanksgiving and information about cooking during colonial times.
Michigan State University
MSU's Library created the Feeding America: The Historic American Cookbook Project. The library has digitized an edition of The Frugal Housewife published in 1830 along with 75 other cookbooks. In addition to the digitized text (a PDF that is downloadable) is an interesting biography about the author.
