CAS Tutors


Tutoring Sessions

Tutors help students to master course content and develop skills and strategies to become active and independent learners. 

Peer and professional tutors work one-on-one or in small groups with other students on course material.

Make the Most of your Tutoring Appointment

Here are some tips for a successful tutoring session:

  • Come to your session prepared by bringing worksheets, class notes, handouts, paper, pencil, tablet and/or laptop.
  • Review the most important information prior to your appointment.  
  • Ask questions! 
  • Speak up! If you don't understand, let the tutor know.

Skills Sessions

Skills Sessions are small-group workshops which are presented by the CAS tutors. Check the CAS home page for Skills Sessions schedules. Some of the topics include:

Online Tutoring via SmartThinking

To provide additional tutoring assistance to students, JWU has partnered with Smarthinking, an online tutoring service.  

To sign up for a SmartThinking tutoring session:

  1. Log on to JWULink
  2. ​Go to the 'Registration and Grades' tab
  3. Scroll to "Tutoring and Homework Help"
  4. Click on the "SMARTHINKING" link.

Through SmartThinking you can:

  • Get feedback on essays.
  • Chat with a tutor using Drop-In Tutoring.
  • Use Scheduled Tutoring to set up a live session (must book at least 48 hours in advance).
  • Send an Offline Question and receive a reply from a tutor.
